Description
AR500 Armored T-Post
Our AR500 Armored T-Post is purpose built to offer a better long term solution versus standard fence T-Posts. Users can expect a durable, stable, and effective solution that will outlive and outlast ANY standard T-Post on the market. Precisely manufactured for performance, capability, and unique functionality. Overall length is 60″, so installing the post 12″ into the ground leaves 48″ of post exposed for target mounting.
Not your Typical T-Post
Our AR500 Armored T-Post is not your typical T-Post. T-Posts that are purchased at a hardware or farm supply store are made from very soft, very weak mild steel. While they are inexpensive up front, they need replaced often. If your range is a higher volume range, you will need to replace standard T-Posts on a weekly basis. Over time, this crushes your overhead, ties up your team, and generally makes a professional facility look sub-par. The AR500 Armored T-Post solves that issue for good.
Structurally sound, meticulously crafted.
The assembly is multiple pieces of AR500 steel that interlocks via tabs on the spine. We then stitch weld the entire assembly strategically for strength and rigidity. Welds are spaced properly to avoid heat warping, and the wire and welding method is completed in a specialized manner that results in welds that will resist cracking and failure. The spine is welded left and right, and along the rear. This means that there is not only strength from multiple sides, but the interlocking nature of the post keeps the loads from directly flexing the welds. Manufacturing these posts excellently is a tedious process, but the results speak for themselves.
Keeping your Range Presentable
When there are targets falling over downrange, it leaves a bad impression on whoever is shooting. Whether you are a professional range, or you just have some land to shoot on, proper range maintenance and presentation is important. Targets that are falling over or posts that are damaged can be a safety risk. The AR500 Armored T-Post removes the risk and creates a planted system that is extremely capable.
Multi-Use Capable
Do not be mistaken: This is not just “another T-Post”. We cut the main body of the post out of Swedish AR500 material that is 1/4″ thick. We use a small piece of 10GA mild steel at the top to maintain standard T-Post dimensions. The body and spine are thicker and wider than your standard 1.25 pound / foot T-Posts. This creates more engagement with the earth, resulting in more rigidity and better stability. Further, the spine of the T-Post features sets of two holes.
These holes allow you to mount our Front Mount T-Post Bracket or our A-DAP Front Mount Bracket. This effectively makes it possible to run multiple target plates up the spine. Run an Exodus AR550 C Zone in the middle and an AR550 reduced C Zone up top. Or run your own version of a vertical “know your limits” style target by getting multiple Genesis AR500 Gongs. The versatility is endless.
Simple Set up
The AR500 Armored T-Post was built for hard, high volume use. It will stand the test of time. Simply grab your T-Post Driver and drive the post into the ground at LEAST 12″. Then install either our Genesis T-Post Bracket, Heavy Duty T-Post Bracket, Middle Mount T-Post Bracket, A-DAP T-Post Bracket, or our A-DAP Middle Mount Bracket to your post. Using this T-Post keeps your range free of bases, which makes mowing safer and easier as well. Further, you can “sprinkle” targets all across your range, creating exciting arrays of target layouts. Exciting ranges = more members. More members means better revenue and profitability. Stop gambling with “less than” targets. Stock running TA Targets.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1.) Should I use this Armored T-Post or a complete system with a base?
Answer: Complete systems with bases are a better fit for customers who need maximum mobility. If you are mostly focused on spreading targets out across your range, and you care less about moving them often, the Armored T-Post is a good option. Further, the Armored AR500 T-Post offers amazing versatility. You can mix and match Genesis and Exodus Target Plates. The Genesis plates can be mounted with either our standard T-Post Mount, our HD T-Post Mount, or our Middle / Front T-Post Mount. For our Exodus Steel Target Plates, you can choose from our A-DAP T-Post top mount, or our A-DAP Middle / Front mount.
You can mix and match A-DAP target plates in that configuration as well, creating an exciting range experience.
2.) Is the post close range rifle rated?
Answer: No, it is not. It is meant to withstand rifle fragmentation at 100 yards + for short action cartridges, and 200 yards + for long action cartridges. While it might not be unsafe to use these posts at closer distances, users must understand that closer than 100 yard rifle impacts may void the warranty. If you have questions about this, please contact us at info@phantomtarget.com. Direct impacts may cause some bending or deformation over time, but will not affect performance or safety of the post.
3.) Why is the Armored AR500 T-Post so “expensive”?
Answer: We stay away from the word expensive because it doesn’t accurately describe a product. We know that these T-Post are VALUABLE, not expensive. What you get for your money is a way to mount 2-3 target systems. It actually saves you money versus buying 3 bases, 3 top brackets, and 3 separate plates. The value of a product is in the eye of the beholder. Could you just keep replacing those store bought T-Posts at $10+ per post? Sure. But if you are a higher volume shooter, you will find the value in a “buy once, cry never” solution.
Further, this is actually a very complicated product to manufacture. While it looks simple, it uses a large amount of premium AR500 material. Further, the welding process is very tedious to keep the spine straight and true. Last, finishing off the top of the post requires focus and perfection so it interfaces properly with our brackets. In other words: It’s a higher cost item to produce. Which is good. Because you’re getting the best of the best.
4.) Can I mix and Match Genesis and Exodus Steel Target Plates?
Answer: Yes, you can. But you should ALWAYS keep in mind that our AR500 and AR550 target systems feature different distance ratings. If you ever mix and match AR500 with AR550, by default you MUST adhere to the minimum distance and caliber requirements of the AR500 plate. This is to avoid accidental damage to the AR500 plates. Never shoot the AR500 plates at close distances.
5.) Will my T-Post bracket purchased from “the other guys” work with this post?
Answer: We cannot guarantee that this will work. However, IF your current T-Post mount is top mounted like ours, and is designed for a 1.25 Pound / Foot T-Post, it MIGHT work. We cannot guarantee fitment of our competitors products, and we recommend running only our brackets for safety and longevity / performance reasons.
6.) Can I use a Hammer to install this post?
Answer: We HIGHLY recommend against that. You likely will damage the top of the post, and that may make it unserviceable. In fact, NEVER use a hammer! Instead, use a T-Post Driver like our Heavy Duty T-Post Driver. ALWAYS wear safety gear when installing posts into the ground.
7.) My soil is rocky, will I be able to install this post.
Answer: Good news is our material is purpose built to take a beating. Bad news is: Rocky round or soil is not ideal. Usually a compacted soil, dirt, or clay base will be easier to drive the post in, and will result in the most stable condition. Sand is also not a recommended material, as the post likely will not be stable. You don’t want too hard of a soil, or too loose of a soil. The soil becomes part of the stability of the system. You can test your soil with a standard T-Post prior to purchasing this one, if that is helpful.
8.) Does This Product Fall Under Prop. 65 Warnings?
Answer: Maybe. Just in case, be sure not to eat the paint or lick the target before or after you’ve shot it. If you are just curious, led tastes horrible and will probably cause mental damage. If you have done it once you are likely to do it again. Handle at your own risk, if you choose, you may wear an industry grade hazmat suit and gas mask with a HEPA filter and good luck charm on your wrist.
